ECS Assessment

Assessment allows Elizabethton City Schools staff and students to measure their progress and set goals for improvement. As a district, we work hard to recognize student progress with Academic Pep Rallies, our Academic Success Wall at Elizabethton High School and other recognition. We are proud of the excellent achievement and growth at all grade levels.

Cyclone Checkpoints

In the 2016-17 school year, all Elizabethton City Schools (ECS) students from 3rd grade through high school began participating in formative assessments called Cyclone Checkpoints. These formative assessments help teachers to understand what their students are learning in core subjects so they can modify lessons to meet students’ unique learning styles. This data can also be used to modify instruction on the district level.

Cyclone Checkpoints are designed and evaluated by ECS teachers to ensure students are learning and to better prepare them for summative assessments like TCAPS. They are intended for use as a benchmarking tool and are not issued or graded by the state. 

PowerSchool is our online testing vendor for these formative assessments, and parents are encouraged to take a sample test online to see what their students will see in the classroom.
