Back-2-School Bash

Chief Jason Shaw leads kids through the EPD Obstacle Course.

The 2nd annual ECS Back-2-School Bash will feature 1,000 free backpacks full of school supplies, inflatables, obstacle courses, lunch, a police dog demo, giveaway items, health and education resources and back to school information direct from principal and teachers. The entire event is free and will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Citizens Bank Stadium.

The event is planned in partnership with East River Park Christian Church, Carter County Health Department, and the Elizabethton Police Department. Last year, more than 40 sponsors and organizations came together to make it a huge success with more than 3,000 in attendance.

Sponsorship

Sponsored backpacks

The Bash depends entirely on community support. Last year, the community donated more than $20,000 in backpack sponsorship, food and services. This year, we are seeking $20,000 for backpacks alone, so we can give away a total of 1,000 backpacks - 200 more than last year. We order backpacks through a school supplier, and they average about $16 each. Please speak with your church leaders or coworkers and consider supporting this important cause. Supporting students with school supplies is supporting them with the gift of confidence on the first day of school.

1 = $16

10 = $160

50 = $800

100 = $1,600

Sponsors have already begun to donate to support the 2017 event. Donations must be submitted by July 1, so that backpacks can be ordered. Sponsors will be recognized in the newspaper, online, on social media and in brochures that will be distributed with backpacks. They will also receive Proud Sponsor window clings for their business or church. In addition, sponsors who donate more than $1,000 will be able to hang a banner (maximum size 4' X 8') on the outside of the stadium where visitors will be waiting (only for the day of hte event). Banners must be submitted by July 28. With questions about sponsorship, please email bekah.price@ecschools.net or call 547-8000. Feel free to share our flyer at your places of business and worship as well.

Community Partners

Northeast Community Credit Union

We invite community organizations that provide health and educational resources to set up a table at the Back-2-School Bash. The purpose is to educate families about resources available to them in Carter County, and there is no cost to participate. We are currently seeking hair stylists who can give free haircuts at the Bash, which was popular last year. Those interested should email bekah.price@ecschools.net to secure a booth. Organizations setting up booths may arrive as early as 8 a.m. to set up, and we ask that you have everything set up by 9:30 a.m.

Volunteers

East River Park Volunteers

We depend on volunteers to oversee inflatables, serve food, provide directions and help setup. Many ECS staff members volunteer, but we still need folks to help with some stations. Contact bekah.price@ecschools.net to learn how you can volunteer at the event.
