Senior Hannah Roaten will serve as the new Student Liaison to the Board of Education. She was elected by the student body and will serve as a bridge between the Board and students for the 2017-2018 school year. Roaten is the president of Elizabethton High School Key Club, and a member of Newspaper staff and SGA.
"I'm a very social person, and I think I communicate well with adults," said Roaten. "Student Government Association is supposed to represent the student body, so we've talked a lot about working with the Board, and I hope to be that link."
Roaten will be the second student to serve in this position in the history of Elizabethton City Schools. The position was created in 2016 as a result of a student proposal in the XQ Super School Project, in which EHS students submitted a winning proposal and won the Student Leadership Award.
“Last year the Board of Education benefited from having a student liaison,” said Board Chair Rita Booher. “The insights and suggestions voiced by the liaison gave us insights into what our current students are thinking. Our continued hope is that the students feel they have a voice. We look forward to welcoming and working with Ms. Roaten.”
