School Policies
ESE School Policies:
Dear Parent/Guardian(s):
Welcome Back! I hope you had a wonderful summer. The East Side family is looking forward to a wonderful 2011-2012 school year. New and old faces alike will grace the hallways. I am thrilled to return to ESE for my 5th year. ESE is a great place to be. The information below is vital for us to start each day in a successful way. Please read this information carefully.
Best Wishes for a successful school year,
Josh Wandell
All traffic in the morning will enter from what was previously the exit on Siam Road. We will still have two lanes and will merge to one, and everyone will exit on Siam Road by making a right turn (only) out of the parking lot. After exiting our parking lot, anyone needing to travel into the East Side community will turn left onto Riverside Drive.
In the afternoon, we will have the parents of all students who dismiss in the front (Grades 1-3) to enter the same way you entered in the morning and exit the same as well. Parents of 4th and 5th grade students will enter in the entrance from last year in the right lane only, and proceed to the back lot.
Make sure to come (as we do now) to the side with the classroom of your youngest child (Grades 1-5). I have talked to siblings, and they are going to get together inside the building so you only have to go to one location.
Drop Off & Pick Up Times
Doors will open at 7:30 for breakfast. Students are sent to class at 8:00 for all grades. Kindergarten will dismiss from the classrooms at 2:00. Grades 1-3 will dismiss out the main entrance with grade 1 at 3:00 and grades 2 & 3 dismissing at 3:05. Grades 4 & 5 will dismiss through the new gym. Grade 4 will dismiss at 3:05 and 5th graders will be dismissed at 3:00. Please be mindful that it can be “counter productive” to arrive too early for pickup. Please be respectful of others and be safety minded as you drop off and pick up your children.
Dropping off a child should not be a burden for the parent, nor should it be for the school staff. You can help us by adhering to the following guidelines:
1. With the exception of kindergarten (for the first two full weeks) all students should be dropped off at the front entrance. Parents will not be allowed to walk students to class after August 17 (grades 1-5) and August 26 (Kindergarten). This allows your child to develop some independence while strengthening their dependence on our faculty and staff. In addition, this will provide for a more safe and secure campus. All parents and visitors entering the building must sign-in at all times. Parents are not to have impromptu meetings with teachers while dropping off students. If you need to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and leave a return phone number so that the teacher may contact you at their earliest convenience.
2. If you arrive in front of the building, you must park in a parking place. You must drive beyond the crosswalk to park and enter the building.
3. From 7:30 – 7:55, students not eating breakfast are to go to the gym.
4. From 7:30 – 7:55, students eating breakfast should go to the cafeteria and remain there until the bell rings. Students should proceed to the gym as they will not be allowed to go back to the cafeteria. The cafeteria also has staff on duty during this time. No students, parents, or visitors may wait in the foyer during these times. For the safety and security of our children and our staff, no one will be allowed to wait in the foyer from 7:30 – 7:55.
State Law Regarding Falsely Enrolled Students
As many of you are aware, our school has had to turn students (new tuition) away for the past few years. We have since had to require all new students to bring 2 proofs of residence when registering. Because of numerous issues regarding false/fraudulent information being given to school districts across the state, our state legislature passed a law which will charge anyone registering a student fraudulently the amount the school system spends per student and any court costs associated with such action. While we would love to be able to take every child that wishes to attend, we must follow state and federal guidelines regarding class size.
