Student Life

The Board views the school as a community and the rules and regulations of that school as the laws of that community. Each member enjoying the rights of citizenship in the community must also accept the responsibilities of citizenship. School staff, students and parents all must assume the responsibility for appropriate behaviors in the school.

The Board believes that students should”

1. Be encouraged to participate in establishing course goals, in planning classroom activities and in improving courses of studies;

2. Feel free to express, without fear, their own opinions, recognizing that every privilege and right has a corresponding responsibility;

3. Be involved in the planning of assembly programs and school-sponsored forums of interest;

4. Be encouraged to participate in student government organizations that provide students with a voice in school affairs; and

5. Be encouraged to participate in a variety of extra-class activities to broaden their educational experiences.

Typical student responsibilities are to:

1. Know and adhere to reasonable rules and regulations established by the Board;

2. Respect the human dignity and worth of every other individual;

3. Refrain from libel, slanderous remarks, threats, and obscenity in verbal and written expression;

4. Study and maintain the best possible level of academic achievement;

5. Be punctual and present in the regular school program;

6. Dress and groom in a manner that meets reasonable standards of health, cleanliness, modesty and safety;

7. Maintain and/or improve the school environment, preserve school and private property, and exercise care while using school facilities;

8. Refrain from disobedience or misconduct or behavior which would lead to physical or emotional harm or disrupts the educational process;

9. Respect the authority of school administrators, teachers and other authorized personnel to maintain discipline in the school and at school sponsored activities;

10. Obey the law and school rules as to the possession or the use of alcohol, illegal drugs and other unauthorized substances or materials; and

11. Possess on school grounds only those materials which are acceptable under the law and accept the consequences for articles stored in one’s locker.

Dress Code

While we dress differently for many occasions, “realizing there are many fashions” available to today’s pre-teen student, we at T.A. Dugger feel students should show proper attention to personal cleanliness, neatness, and conservative standards of dress and appearance. Appropriate dress for girls include dresses, shorts, skirts, jeans or slacks with blouses/shirts. Jeans, trousers, or shorts with shirts are suitable attire for boys. Shorts and skirts should be fingertip length or longer when arms are extended to the sides. Shoes must be worn at all times. Hats, sunglasses, and jackets must be removed upon entering the building and may not be worn to class.

Students who come to school inappropriately dressed (clothing, hair, or make-up which may cause distraction and/or interruption in the educational process or pose a safety hazard) will be required to change. While the following clothing may be acceptable for most casual situations, we feel it is inappropriate for the school setting. We request that parents review this list carefully and insure students are in compliance before leaving home.
