The Elizabethton City School System applied for a grant earlier this year and received notification last week the grant was awarded for $470,662. The Elizabethton Schools is the only school in TN that received the 2019 COPS School Violence Prevention Program Grant. The funding will be used to update the security system and safety in all Elizabethton City Schools. Dr. Corey Gardenhour stated, " I am very pleased Elizabethton City School System was chosen as the only school in TN to receive this grant. This grant will help increase the level of safety by hardening the entrances and coupling with the SRO's at every school. We look forward to the increase in participation and communication of possible threats to keep students and staff safe by enhancing conversations around safety. I would like to thank members of the school system and Chief Shaw for their hard work to achieve this grant. Safety is paramount to the success of our schools."
Tonight's School Board Meeting at 6:30pm will reveal more information about the new security system and plans for installation.
