Changes in a child’s bus stop must now be reported to the school, not the bus driver

Parents and faculty should be aware of the procedural change in transportation for students that need to be transported to a location other than their home, because of a hardship, or the need to ride multiple buses as a result of custody orders or parenting plans. Bus drivers will no longer be allowed to accept notes from students or parents who wish to ride to a location other than their regular stop. Parents will need to contact the school office (by signed note or by phone) indicating the need for the change and the destination. The office staff will verify the request and check to see if the location is along one of our routes. Drivers will then be notified of the change. Due to the need to verify the change of drop-off with parents, it is preferable that parents call the school to request the change.

Beginning Monday, parents of children who regularly ride buses to either parent’s home should either call the school or send a signed note detailing where their children will need to be dropped off for each day of the week. Throughout the year, if a child needs to ride a different bus home for a legitimate purpose, parents should contact the school or send a signed note detailing which bus the child will be riding. Parents will be notified if there is an issue with their request. Changes in a stop must be along a driver’s regular route. Drivers may not deviate from their regular route.

The purpose of this change is to improve student safety and ensure students are riding the right bus to an approved destination. “We realize that sometimes changes happen with custody and other situations, and we want to make sure those changes have been approved by school administrators,” said Dr. Corey Gardenhour, Director of Schools. “This is a safety measure for students and a communication tool for parents.”

Bus Routes are available online at www.ecschools.net > Departments > Transportation > “Click here to view our most recent bus routes.” Parents should contact their child’s school if they have any questions.

Teachers are encouraged to send any notes, pertaining to bus transportation, to the office as early as possible. Any change in a stop, must be reported to, and verified by, the office. Parents are encouraged to call the school office, with bus changes, early in the day. Due to the verification process, calls received in the afternoon may be problematic due to the high volume of calls and visitors to the office at the end of the day. 

Students that have not had a note or call verified by the school will not be allowed to exit the bus anywhere other than their regular stop. Students that fail to produce the bus transportation form from the office, and have no one at home, will be returned to the school to contact their parents/guardians.

Family members are encouraged to be at bus stops (where possible) to ensure the safe transfer of children to their home. This is especially true of younger children that may be riding for the first time. Your child’s safety is our number one priority. We appreciate your assistance in this procedure change.
