On April 13, four Elizabethton FFA members placed 2nd in the East TN Regional Nursery and Landscape Career Development Event. The students are Nathan Batchelder, Cheyenne Bowers, Heather Estep, and Maddie Jaynes. They will progress to the next level of competition later this month in the TN State Nursery and Landscape CDE against the top teams from each region of Tennessee.

These students tested for five hours in competition areas such as: general knowledge exam, landscape evaluation, tool, disease and plant identification, and team presentation.

Carrie Lykins, Agriculture Instructor, congratulated all members, saying this is the only time since 2010 (which is the furthest back the school's records date) that students have qualified for the state contest.

Camie Isaacs and Morgan Hyatt attended for moral support and then volunteered to help with another contest. They made sure teams were in the right rooms and helped with contest materials.

Ms. Lykins likes to share a personal story for each FFA experience and shared an amazing moment from this competition. At this event, she said the EHS team cheered when they were announced as the second place team. When the first place team was announced, they also celebrated that team with hugs and high-fives and discussion of meeting up at the state competition. "It was the true definition of sportsmanship."
