New Community Partners Coordinator to expand partnership network, communication at EHS

Welcome Maggie Donnellan, Bartleby Community Partners Coordinator for Elizabethton High School. Donnellan graduated from Furman University in May 2018 (Roll Dins!) and is so pleased to be starting her next chapter here in Elizabethton.

“My mom is a teacher, and education has always been really important to me,” said Donnellan. “I’m extremely excited to now be working in a position that supports one of the most innovative educational programs in the country right near my hometown of Kingsport.”

This new position was created to support the school’s transition to immersive, inquiry-driven education since joining the XQ Super School network. It is funded by a grant from the XQ Institute for a five-year period.

Her role exists to bridge gaps between the community and EHS by developing new mutually beneficial partnerships and expanding communication. That means she will be working closely with the teachers and students of EHS to identify needs in the school and community, and to align those with partners and resources.

Part of the vision of the Bartleby student proposal in the XQ Super School Project was to integrate the school and community. Students believed this would make learning more relevant and allow them to work on real projects that would impact the world around them. Business and community leaders have been encouraged by students’ vision for opportunity and involvement in the community. Already, dozens of partners have stepped up to pitch ideas, volunteer their time and experience, or to serve as project judges and mentors.

Donnellan is working diligently to continue this momentum, solidifying a sustainable partnership network. She will serve as the point of contact for community members interested in pitching ideas for student projects, as well as the contact for teachers in need of partners or resources. Additionally, she will coordinate the school’s communication efforts through social media, the school website, and local media.

Prior to her work here in Elizabethton, Donnellan worked at Healthy Kingsport as an intern and volunteer manager and held positions in multiple campus jobs at Furman. These included the Furman IT Service Center, Daniel Chapel, and the Furman Paladin Tennis Center. She enjoys musical theatre, volunteering in her community, running, and spending time with her family and dogs.

She can be reached at Maggie.donnellan@ecschools.net or by calling 423-547-8000.
