ECS tuition application: online for grades K-8, in person for grades 9-12

Posted On: Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Parents interested in their children attending Elizabethton City Schools as new tuition students should apply online in the Cyclone Connection for grades K-8 or in person for grades 9-12. Tuition students are those whose parents or guardians do not live within Elizabethton city limits, but who wish to attend Elizabethton City Schools as tuition-paying students.

Tuition Applicants in Grades K-8, Out-of-Zone Requests in Grades K-5

The Cyclone Connection will open Wednesday, April 17 at 8 a.m., and applications are sorted on a first-come, first-served basis with regard to the priority order. The Cyclone Connection doubles as the out-of-zone request form for Elizabethton elementary students wishing to request attendance at a different Elizabethton elementary school than the one for which they’re zoned.

A link to the Cyclone Connection will be available on ECS Facebook and Twitter, as well as the ECS Registration web page. All applications should be completed by Wed., May 1. However, online applications will be accepted until August 23.

Elementary students’ acceptance will not be confirmed until the first half day of school, when schools can verify enrollment of Elizabethton residents. In recent years, all tuition applicants have been accepted, though ECS cannot guarantee students will be placed in their first-choice school.

Junior high applicants will be contacted in May by the school registrar to pickup a registration packet and submit required documentation.

Returning tuition students in grades K-5 do not need to apply in the Cyclone Connection, but they will need to submit the Returning K-5 Tuition or Returning K-5 Out-of-Zone form to their child’s school. Returning tuition students in grades 6-8 do not need to do anything. Students that are currently enrolled at the Wandell Early Learning Center, live outside of Elizabethton city limits, and plan to enroll in Elizabethton kindergarten are considered new tuition students and need to apply in the Cyclone Connection.

Tuition Applicants in Grades 9-12

New tuition applicants at the high school will not apply in the Cyclone Connection. New tuition applicants and new Elizabethton High School students (not transferring from T. A. Dugger Jr. High) and their parents should make plans to attend one of two tuition registration dates at the high school: May 30 or May 31 from 8:30-11:00 a.m. or 12:30-3:00 p.m.  The final day of registration for new students will be August 1, 2019.

Appointments are not necessary for these dates; however, parents and students should come and allow at least 45 minutes for the registration process. The applying student or parent should pick up and complete a registration packet in advance of the registration dates.

Rising freshmen will pick up their registration packet at the CTE Open House and 8th grade Parent Night, which will take place March 7 at 6 p.m. for 8th grade students transferring from T. A. Dugger and for new tuition students going into 9th grade. If they cannot attend, registration packets will be available at the EHS counseling office or from Tracy Hayes at TAD for TAD 8th graders.

On registration days, students and parents are required to bring: the colored registration form (all sections completed), birth certificate, social security card, current TN immunization (see packet for proper form), 2 proofs of residency (see registration packet for the only documents accepted), and custodial documents.  Also, current high school students will need to withdraw from their current school after their last day of class.

If the new student receives special education services, forms will only be collected by the counseling office, and a future appointment will be made for the special education department.

Tuition Payment

Tuition may be paid in one lump sum at the beginning of the year, in two payments at the beginning of each semester, or monthly online. More information about tuition payments is available on the Registration web page.
