Hello, My name is Regina Cates and I currently serve as HME Math Interventionist. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in K-8 Education and a Master of Education in Leadership and Supervision pre-K through 12 from ETSU.
I began my teaching career in Elizabethton City Schools at East Side Elementary where I taught Kindergarten and 1st grade. During my time at ES I was awarded the State of TN Social Studies Council “Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year”.
After ten years at East Side I went into Administration as Assistant Principal then Principal at T.A. Dugger Junior High from 1996 to 2007. I decided to return to my true love which is teaching and taught 6th - 8th grade Reading and Writing Lab.
I then transferred to Harold McCormick Elementary in 2008 and taught fourth grade self-contained classroom for several years. We then departmentalized and I taught Science and Socials Studies then Math. I was honored to be chosen by my peers to serve as Building and System Level Teacher of the year in 2009 and again 2016-17. Beginning the 2017 School Year I embarked on a new journey -- I became the K-5 Math Interventionist.
From a young age I wanted to be a teacher and do not take the responsibility lightly. I am a person who is actively engaged in the education of children. I have been fortunate to have varied experiences working with Elizabethton City School students. Each new opportunity has brought it’s own unique rewards. I am thankful for the relationships I have formed with students and adults; (parents and fellow educators). I enjoy the creativity and art of teaching and will strive to be a positive influence on young minds. I look forward to continuing to help students build their math skills and their love of learning!
