                                           welcome

My name is Rachel Arrowood, and I will be serving as a Spanish and ELA 8 teacher at T.A. Dugger for the 2019-2020 school year. I am so excited for the year ahead, getting to know my students, and discovering more about the world we live in together.

I am a native of Carter County, growing up at Watauga Lake. I attended Hampton High School, and after graduating from there in 2012, I began my journey at King University in Bristol, Tennessee. There I double-majored in English and Spanish, and I minored in Secondary Education with an additional endorsement in teaching English as a Second Language. In the summer of 2019, I completed my Master's degree from Liberty University in Christian Counseling with a focus in Marriage and Families.

My first student teaching placement was at Colegio Miravalles in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. There for almost three months, I taught 11th and 12th grade American and British Literature, English immersion, grammar, and writing courses. My second placement was at T.A. Dugger in a 7th grade ELA classroom. After graduating from King in 2016, I moved to the Kansas City area to work at Shelterwood Academy, a Christian therapeutic residential school. While these invaluable experiences have helped shape who I hope to be as a teacher, I am thrilled to be in my hometown as a part of the Cyclone family. This is my third year teaching at TA Dugger.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog, gardening, hiking, working at my church, cooking, and (of course) traveling.
