West Side Elementary promoting active living for students and the community

West Side Elementary received a grant from Niswonger Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network  for innovative fitness in education equipment. The grant brings the Project Fit America Program to the school and provides state-of-the-art outdoor and indoor fitness equipment, curriculum, and on-site teacher training.The ribbon cutting ceremony was held last week with special speakers Dr. Corey Gardenhour (Superintendent of Elizabethton City Schools), Jack Simpson (President of Ballad Health Foundation), Corey Paulson (Community Engagement Specialist for Ballad Health), Dwayne Taylor (CEO of SSH Hospital), and Vickie Hungate ( Event Program Manager for Ballad Health Foundation). A special guest speaker Chris Boehm the "Ginga Ninja" that has appeared several times on the American Ninja Warrior.The Ginga Ninja talked with students about exercising and making good choices to stay healthy. A big thank you to John Wright (Principal) and Crystal VanHuss (P.E. Teacher) for all the hard work making the fitness area possible for students and the community. The area is open for community use after school and on the weekends.
